Matrix ONE Innovation Centre

The Matrix ONE Innovation Centre has set itself up as a state-of-the-art, highly sustainable innovation building designed for meetings and interaction. Amsterdam’s Science Park is home to this noteworthy project, which was designed by renowned Rotterdam architects MVRDV and opened in 2023 by Femke Halsema, the Mayor of Amsterdam. Hunter Douglas Architectural, a leading provider of architectural ceiling and facade solutions, is proud to have contributed to this unique project.

BREEAM Excellent certification
Matrix ONE impresses with its sustainable character and low carbon emissions. The building offers optimal energy efficiency thanks to the use of natural ventilation and advanced smart building technology. In addition, the building has a facade with HR++ glass, a state-of-the-art thermal energy storage system, 1,000 m2 of solar panels and a spacious bicycle shed with room for 300 bicycles. Matrix ONE was constructed entirely out of reusable materials and has received the prestigious BREEAM Excellent certificate, underlining its commitment to sustainability and care for the environment.

Sustainability and acoustics
Hunter Douglas Architectural played a crucial role in the implementation of a HeartFelt® felt ceiling and wall system with veneer gridwork. This system not only contributes to the building’s aesthetics, but also enhances its sustainability and acoustics, ensuring an ideal environment for the companies and researchers that work here.

Matrix ONE is a breeding ground for innovation, with state-of-the-art offices and laboratories, an open area for socialising and the presence of the University of Amsterdam’s SustainaLab, where researchers, business and government collaborate on the restoration of natural cycles and the future of our planet.
